July is National Blueberry Month, and demand is expected to rise in the next few weeks. Some areas in Oregon are off to a late start in harvest, while other places like Pasco, Washington are experiencing sunny weather.

Director of Marketing for Rainier Fruit Company, Suzanne Wolter, stated, “for the last ten days or so, we’ve had absolutely beautiful weather and the forecast for the next ten days is mid-80’s to mid 90’s. Quality has been excellent and extremely well received in the market.”

Cindy Jewell, Director of Marketing for California Giant Berry Farms, said quote, “the weather disruption that we had last week really just delayed the harvest slightly, but everything is still on track as far as volume and quality and the season is just pushed back a week or so.”

President Matt Curry of Curry & Company explained, “long story short is, everything is ten days late. We’ve had a lot of rain, and finally this week we are in the 80’s and having the weather that we need, which is very unusual because we always have blueberries for the 4th. In general, we think quality is going to be very good and we should have a large size crop.”

Despite the delay, quality and volume seem to be looking good, especially with the recent warmer weather. Thank you for watching “The Bloom!”
