US Foods activated a 430 kilowatt solar panel system, consisting of almost 2,000 photovoltaic pannels at their distribution center in Albuquerque, New Mexico last week. The new system will generate 711,000 kilowatt hours annually, enough to power 71 average New Mexico homes, and will account for nearly 25% of the facilities energy needs. The system goes hand in hand with other green initiatives taken at the Albuquerque division, such as green landscaping and installation high-efficiency lighting. John Szurek, division president, US Foods stated, “US Foods is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and providing a more sustainable future for our customers and community.” He continued, “This solar panel system will improve our efficiency and allow us to meet our customers’ needs in a more sustainable way.”
