This month, the company is welcoming grilling season and Wegmans’ people are ready to show how America’s favorite cooking technique can make an entire meal – including veggies – taste better than ever.

The company is hosting a Grilled Veggie Party, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday June 22, at any Wegmans store. Balloons, prizes, activities for kids, and passports to guide customers toward tasting and cooking demo stations will adorn the event, according to a press release.

Because there’s ample scientific evidence that eating vegetables helps people enjoy better health, Wegmans keeps developing new ways to make vegetables “craveable,” says Wegmans Nutrition and Product Labeling Manager Jane Andrews, M.S., R.D. “We want to make it easy for families to put healthy meals on the table that everybody likes. Eating five cups of fruits and vegetables every day has many benefits. It helps people maintain a healthy weight and have better blood pressure readings, and lowers their risk of many health problems.”

The event offers customers a chance to spin the Wheel of Grilling and answer a true or false question that tests knowledge of best grilling practices. They can also enter a drawing to win a Grilling Basics Gift Set worth $40 and get a passport that maps out tasting stations and summarizes Wegmans’ recommended grilling techniques. Kids can participate in a scavenger hunt by completing a task card they can complete by picking up matching stickers at each station.

Featured dishes include grilled zucchini with garlic cheese butter in Produce, grilled veggies with chipotle lime butter at the Veggie Bar as well a $6 Meal Italian Classics Sausage with peppers & onions in Prepared Foods, mushroom bruschetta in the Meat department and a tomato & bean veggie burger in the Frozen Food area.

Mark Makovec, a Wegmans Executive Chef, notes, “We think we’ve got some real winners with plenty of taste appeal, but we kept the ingredients and instructions very simple so success at home is easy, and the meal’s on the table in minutes.”

Some stations in the store will have videos showing how to recreate the dishes. For those who’d like to watch a refresher at home on grilling tips, just check out some of the videos on wegmans.com in the Summer Videos collection.Wegmans
