Whole Foods has now joined third-party grocery home-delivery service Instacart to bring produce to homes across Los Angeles, California. This is Instacart’s most recent expansion in a series of moves across the country – most recently, New York. In total, the company services San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Chicago. While Whole Foods has already been a part of Instacart’s list of retailers, this partnership is what helped enabled the company to move to the Los Angeles market.

Whole Foods and Instacart will initially cover West Hollywood, Hollywood, Fairfax, Beverly Grove, Sawtelle, West L.A., Mid-Wilshire, Santa Monica, Venice, and Marina del Rey, according to LA Times. Additional retailers, such as Costco, Safeway, and BJ’s Wholesale Club, in the area will be added in the coming weeks.

“We expect that the traffic and long commutes in L.A. will drive demand similar to what cold weather does for the East Coast,” said Apoorva Mehta, Founder of Instacart. “Instacart will allow L.A. residents to avoid making those detours to the grocery store while continuing to get the healthy foods they love.”

To use the service, consumers can visit Instacart’s website, linked below, select their city and preferred store, and add items to a virtual cart. The service claims it can deliver produce to homes within one hour, within two hours, or a scheduled time. The company hires personal shoppers to personally pick out the items from the grocery stores so they can be delivered to your home.

Instacart

Evidently, e-commerce is becoming huge for retailers. Now that Instacart is covering some of America’s largest cities, it’ll be interesting to see what other retailers will join in and help expand the service.
