The report, titled “Good Things Are Our Greatest Responsibility,” highlighted the company’s strategic approach to sustainability, according to a press release. Results of Sysco’s sustainability efforts follow below.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Over the past six years, the energy usage in the company’s warehouses decreased by 19 percent, despite a 19 percent increase in warehouse volumes.<img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/562771_10150619968972085_466146878_n.jpeg" alt="Sysco Sustainability Report Images" />Fleet improvements included the addition of 55 low-emission liquid natural gas trucks to the company’s fleet. The company now has a total of 165. Since 2010, it has purchased over 2,300 new trucks with low-emission engines.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The fill-rate of product-transporting trucks was increased by 180 pounds, meaning 1,400 fewer trucks were on the road compared to last year.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Suppliers in its Integrated Pest Management Program reported conserving more than 700 million gallons of water in the 2011 growing season. <img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/582830_10150644414752085_1650269178_n.jpeg" alt="Sysco Sustainability Report Images" />"Sysco has an established track record of balancing its business needs with stakeholder interests, and we are working to further integrate sustainability into our long-term business strategy," said Bill DeLaney, Sysco's president and chief executive officer.
