Bland Farms is gearing up for 2014 with ample supplies of Mexican sweet onions on the horizon and new products to diversify produce departments. Currently, the company is still shipping Peru sweet onions out of the southern region of the country.

Greg Smith, Marketing Communications Manager, tells AndNowUKnow, “Demand for Peru sweets has been high, providing a great deal of momentum as we move into our next varieties. In the next three weeks we'll shift into our Mexican sweet onions and then to our Texas sweets following that. Right now the Mexican sweet onion crop looks good and we feel great about the quality and supply.”

The company is continually working on new products and as of today, Bland is in the early development and testing stages of some of these items. The company recently released its new Vidalia Brands Sweet Potato Fries at PMA Fresh Summit. They are the second snack food in Bland’s Vidalia Brands lineup along with its popular Vidalia Brands Sweet Onion Petals. The Sweet Potato Fries are a salty crunchy snack great for any occasion and are a perfect addition to the produce department.

In addition to the Sweet Potato Fries, Bland recently released two new Vidalia Brands condiments- Sweet Onion Hibachi white sauce and Sweet Onion Caesar dressing.

“Each has been extremely well received,” Smith tells us.

Smith notes, “Our Western Sweet Onions have been strong this year and we look to continue that program moving forward. Western Sweets are something we are very excited about at Bland Farms and they serve as a great addition to our product lineup in conjunction with Peru Sweet onions.”

Western Sweets are currently being packed out of Nevada and Bland is very pleased with their sizing and quality. The program will run into the month of January and once it wraps up, the company will switch over to Mexican Sweet Onions.

Initially there were weather challenges in the growing region in Peru that slowed the company down earlier in the season, but its since seen a very strong market for Peru Sweet Onions that Bland is very pleased with. Peak season is Vidalia Sweet Onion season which begins in April and runs through August or September.

“We will continue working hard in 2014 to provide our customers with the best sweet onions available on the market and hope that retailers will look to Bland Farms for all of their year-round sweet onion needs,” Smith states.

Congrats Bland Farms, on your successful sweet onion program and host of new product offerings.

Bland Farms
