West Pak Avocado is gearing up for the California season, with improvements to its facility in Murrieta set to be finished in March. The company invested $400,000 dollars to enhance food safety and increase packaging efficiencies. The facility has a new Quality Assurance program and check station, a new avocado cleaning and drying system, and a new wash system that allows all bins to be cleaned in a natural and sustainable way, using ozone infused reverse osmosis water. West Pak also reconfigured the box trolley line and conveying system. Trevor Newhouse, VP of Operations, tells us, “The California season will begin about mid-march. We have to be able to perform efficiently during the peak months of June and July and these new investments will allow us to do so. We are now able to pack about 60,000 pounds of fruit per hour which sets us up for a successful year.”
