GOODYEAR, AZ - Duncan Family Farms, recently attained an accolade to add to the proud holster of organically growing a wider array of produce. The company announced that it was honored with the 2017 All Ways Safe Agricultural Safety Award for a Large Company, a title that covers all its operations—Brawley, Nipomo; New Cuyama, California; Buckeye, Arizona.
"We don't just throw 'safety' out there as a word or a slogan," said Linda Kennedy, Employee Risk Management and Safety Manager. "We truly take it to heart as one of our core values for every single individual at every single farm."
The company noted that to ensure the highest level of employee safety it has embraced collaboration with regulatory safety agencies, according to a press release. Among them are both the California and Arizona Divisions of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA and ADOSH), both of whom were invited to its farms to consult and help identify potential risks and hazards annually.
"The team as a whole is honored to win this award and see all their efforts paying off," said Kennedy. "At the end of the day, we really care about the wellbeing of people—our employees and our community—and having a strong safety program is the outcome of that ideal."
The prestigious title honors businesses and individuals who have committed themselves to ensuring the health and safety of their agricultural workers. The release also stated that this is the first time in All Ways Safe history that a farming operation outside the state of California has been recognized.
The Duncan team said that even though its operations are separated by hundreds of miles, every location operates under the same core values of safety, excellence, integrity, community, team, and respect. Having worked to foster a culture where employees feel secure, the company approaches safety as an integral part of its fiber.
