Welcome to What’s In Store. On today’s episode, we’ll look at key merchandising tips for mangos from around the world. To keep mangos in the best physical health, they should be stored at 54 to 60 degrees upon arrival at retail stores. Mangos can be stored and displayed at room temperature, with the knowledge that they must be re-ordered more frequently. For optimum ease and a productive shopping experience, mangos should be grouped by ripeness in the produce isle. Because Freska’s mangos have no seasonality, shelf space should be maintained on a year-round basis in easily observable displays. With employee assistance, customers can make the best choices when deciding their mango preference. The selection, ripening and cutting of a mango is the perfect opportunity for employees to engage and inform the consumer. Customers should be encouraged to establish ripeness not by color but by touch, tenderly squeezing the mango fruit. If a mango is ripe it gives slightly, while mangos on the firmer side are ideal for enjoyment in a few days. They can be refrigerated to extend their life. To further entice customers to participate in the mango experience, in-store demonstrations can be held and a reallocation of space can be administered to allow for a larger viewing platform. Secondary spaces and displays are great for the produce aisle and also for the front of a store.
