LEAMINGTON, ONTARIO, CANADA - Although having only spent a few years in the world of fresh produce, I can easily say that the thing that makes our industry so strong is the people behind it. Celebrating one of those leaders, Nature Fresh Farms announced that Ray Wowryk, Director of Business Development, is this year’s recipient of Ontario Produce Marketing Association’s (OPMA) Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ray Wowryk, Director of Business Development, Nature Fresh Farms“I have been fortunate to have enjoyed such a long career within an industry that has provided me several opportunities. I would like to thank the OPMA Management and Directors for this lifetime achievement recognition. I feel honored to join past recipients who have contributed a great deal to promote the Ontario fresh produce industry,” expressed Wowryk. “I also want to thank Peter Quiring who gave me the opportunity join the Nature Fresh Farms team to help expand his production and promote the consumption of greenhouse grown vegetables. The innovation, company culture, and passionate management team is what I enjoy the most. Thank you to my team at Nature Fresh Farms Sales for the nomination.”

Each year, the award is given to an individual that has demonstrated their relentless efforts in improving the quality and distribution of fruits and vegetables marketed within or outside the province of Ontario, according to a release. These individuals are the shining examples of the innovation, cooperation, and hard work it takes to make the industry tick.

Wowryk is being recognized as an amazing leader at not only Nature Fresh, but across the industry. During his 45-year tenure in fresh produce, he has served as a mentor while working in every level of the industry from warehouse labor and sales and procurement to fresh imports and exports. Additionally, Wowryk has committed countless volunteer hours and is a prominent member of various organizations, showing that his role is more than a job, it’s a passion.

Matt Quiring, Director of Sales, Nature Fresh Farms“Its an honor to present this well-deserved Lifetime Achievement award to Ray. He has dedicated his life to the produce industry and although it is a small token of appreciation, it is meaningful to him,” shared Director of Sales Matt Quiring. “When Ray joined us at Nature Fresh Farms about 10 years ago, we didn’t think he would want to stay so involved on a day-to-day basis, but I know now that he will continue to be involved as long as he is—in his words—continuing to have fun. A big congratulations to my friend and mentor Ray Wowryk!”

Usually presented at OPMA’s Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony, this year, the award was given virtually during OPMA’s Virtual Gala on December 2.

Cheers to Ray Wowryk for his achievement and impact on the fresh produce industry!
