<p>The Columbia-Snake River Irrigators Association (CSRIA) is announcing a proposed project to deliver surface water from the Columbia River to farmers in Odessa Subarea of Eastern Washington.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Odessa Aquifer deep well irrigators are attempting to privately fund, finance, and build <b>lateral pipelines to send water 8-miles</b> east to <b>70,000 acres</b> of farmland in the Odessa Subarea of Eastern Washington.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The proposed project would be done in cooperation with the US Bureau of Reclamation and the East Columbia Basin Irrigation District, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">At a recent briefing farmers and lenders discussed their work with CSRIA to put together <b>$40 million private financing</b> package to build the physical infrastructure which will get the surface water to the farmers.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">"Right now, in our minds, the two most important things are in place," said Dr. Darryll Olsen, CSRIA's Board Representative. "We've got the private funding and financing in place... and the other part is that the state Department of Ecology has issued the secondary use permit."<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">This new project is being billed as a realistic alternative to continuing to pump from the <b>depleting Odessa Aquifer</b>. The project is being hailed for being a privately funded solution.
