OXNARD, CA - Bobalu Berries is ringing in 60 years with an impactful initiative by creating the first annual Bobalu Berry Farms Scholarship Program. The company is working with multiple high schools to encourage applicants and ultimately reward those who are the first in their family to attend college and need extra financial support.
“We want to commemorate this anniversary by giving back to our community that has supported our family business for so many years,” says Bobby Jones, Managing Partner.
The company is working with the Oxnard High School Union District to launch scholarships for each of the seven main high schools throughout Ventura County, California. A press release noted that the program will be launched in time for 2022 graduating high school seniors to apply.
“We both agreed we want to establish an ongoing scholarship program for graduating high school seniors in Ventura County,” adds RC Jones, Managing Partner, discussing he and Bobby’s decision to create the program.
The 60-year anniversary also celebrates how Bob and Lupe Jones established the berry farming company back in 1962. Now in 2022, Bobby and RC Jones have made their own accomplishments since they took the helm in 2017 and have expanded the company to a vertically integrated strawberry grower, shipper, and processing company poised for continued growth.
When asked about the biggest difference from 60 years ago, the response from both was the complete shift from being a regional supplier to a national brand providing year-round strawberries.
“What we are most proud of is our long-standing commitment established by our grandparents, Bob and Lupe, to keep family first in our company culture. We maintain our slogan ‘Family Grown, Farmer Owned’ and everything that stands behind it. We have accomplished this with controlled growth and being very strategic about how we expand our company,” says Bobby.
