OXNARD, CA - I don’t know about you, but my New Year’s resolutions are already in the works. With the fall and winter months comes a heightened focus on health for many consumers. What could this mean for retailers? Key opportunities to harness the power of the beloved celery category. To uncover everything you need to know to achieve this feat, I recently gained some insight from Boskovich Family Farms.
“Celery is looking good in terms of quality, and there is a ton of volume out there right now,” shares Michael Boskovich, Organic Sales. “For retailers looking to maximize sales during these fall and winter months, we highly recommend positioning celery with other items that are common during the holiday months—such as spinach, beets, or radishes. It’s also a great idea to refresh your products daily, making sure the best quality available is always visible to shoppers.”
As we previously reported when discussing the grower’s Romaine and celery production, celery pricing is currently ranging from $8.95–$15.95. Michael notes that potential challenges with diseases may lead to price increases for the category.
“Hopefully, this market picks itself up because it’s been on the lower end for a few months now,” he states. “There is talk of some disease issues, which could drive up the price if some shippers run into this problem.”
With strong volume and quality in the market, retailers can harness the momentum of the celery category to continue driving seasonal sales.
“Celery stick consumption remains an upward trend. With more shoppers being concerned and aware of what they are consuming, celery still remains a front-runner as a clean, healthy, and ready-to-eat snack, topping, and even a quick juice to take on the go,” adds Michael.
