Camposol Targets the U.S. in 100 Million Dollar Blueberry Production Investment

<p> Camposol is looking to increase its presence in the blueberry category with an ambitious plan that includes an investment of $100 million as it moves towards 2016.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The Executive President of Camposol, Samuel Dyer Coriat, stated that until now Camposol has 200 hectares planted in Chavimochic (La Libertad), and expects to reach 2,000 hectares over the next three years, according to a press release. Camposol has already invested USD 10 million in the project.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Dyer states, "Our main target is the United States, under the format of fresh fruit, while Europe and Asia still have a great potential to further increase the demand of the fruit."<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Camposol plans to invest around USD 40 million next year, half of which will go to the new crop of blueberries as well as asparagus. The other half will be used to improve operational efficiencies and increase capacity in its plants.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The company hopes to consolidate and open more trade offices in the U.S. and Europe in order to increase their sales through that channel. "Today we sell almost 30% of our products directly to supermarkets and 'food services' through our international offices, and we expect to reach 50% of our production in the next five years," Dyer notes.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">While today, the main export market is Europe with 60%, the company expects the U.S. market to reach it in the medium term.
