Center for Produce Safety Preparing its 2014 Request for Research Proposals

<p>The Center for Produce Safety (CPS) is preparing for its 2014 Request for Research proposals in an effort to better understand risk potential and develop more effective food safety management tools throughout the entire supply chain.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The research priorities include core research needs and those specifically identified through the collaborators that participate in the Partners in Research (PIR) program. This program was designed to assist state or regional commodity organizations to identify produce safety knowledge gaps and to help fund research to fill those gaps.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The core research needs cut across all fresh fruit, vegetables, and nuts, including their production and process environments, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The previous 2013 CPS research areas included study into the following:<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Compost, Soil Amendment Fertilizer Use, and Cultivation Practices<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Buffer Zones from Domestic Animals to Fruit and Vegetable Production<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Co-management of Food Safety and the Environment<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Agricultural Water<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Climate, environment, production practices<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Harvest and Cooling Practices<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Pathogen Transfer from Water during Postharvest Handling and Processing<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">· Pathogen Survival in the Postharvest Distribution Chain<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> CPS will announce the next call for research proposals on January 15, 2014.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" https://cps.ucdavis.edu" target="_new"> Center for Produce Safety </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
