<p>Asparagus growers in Southern Ontario have taken a hit as freezing temperatures took their toll on the crop this past weekend.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Grower Keith Wright said that his farm had been harvesting for about a week when the temperature dropped. Frozen asparagus has a clear appearance and spears will droop as it warms up and will have to be discarded, according to the Windsor Star.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The plants will grow more spears; however, Wright said he won’t be able to make up for spears that froze and the two to three days of lost production.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/asparagus051413ban.jpg" alt="images 051313 2" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Growers will have to wait for warmer temperatures to assess the extent of the damage, which "could amount to some serious dollars."</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.windsorstar.com/Frost+damages+asparagus+crop+worries+county+apple+growers/8380094/story.html" target="_new">Asparagus Report </a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
