PHARR, TX - Heading into the height of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere means a steady demand for citrus fruit. Medrano Produce brings key insights to buy-side partners looking to capitalize on July promotions while planning ahead for firmer pricing, tighter supplies, and potential weather challenges in the latter part of the summer.
“The lime market is expected to remain well supplied through the first three weeks of July, keeping pricing relatively stable and creating favorable conditions for promotions,” states Franco Medrano, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “As we move into the latter part of the month, supplies are anticipated to tighten gradually, leading to a steady increase in market prices with the seasonal peak expected during August.”
He notes that retailers should expect favorable pricing throughout most of July, providing an excellent opportunity to promote limes while supplies remain readily available.
“As production begins to tighten later in the month, the market is expected to strengthen, with medium-sized fruit potentially reaching peak pricing around the $30 range during August,” he adds, noting that prolonged rainfall and summer heat may create additional market volatility. “Both can affect harvest volumes, fruit quality, and overall appearance. Excess moisture may reduce harvest efficiency, while heat can accelerate fruit maturity, potentially impacting color, shelf-life, and the availability of premium-quality fruit.”
Franco points out that if wet weather persists or intensifies, it could also slow harvesting operations and reduce marketable volume, placing additional upward pressure on pricing as the season advances.
Following the second half of September, he anticipates a gradual easing of market conditions as production improves heading into the October and November harvest season.
