On this episode AndNowUKnow joins Shea Carroll, Pre-size Manager, Rainier Fruit Company at Rainier's new Max Line addition. The new addition is an operation that the company calls a Super Pre-size. The location is predominantly a pre-sizing house. Rainier serves its customers in a very flexible and custom pack way and this new line allows Rainier to accomplish packing in a gentler and quicker way then the company has previously been able to pack before and with more varieties.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Often when the company pre-sizes, it knows where a certain percentage of the fruit is going to go; from what company is buying the fruit to which box it needs to go in. Fruit needs to be in a bin before the packing can happen. It takes approximately twenty-four hours from the time the company pre-sizes the fruit till it can accumulate enough and then get a run on its other packing lines.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The company can now divert the fruit off of the pre-size line to its Max Line, pack it into a box and still take the rest of the fruit and put it into a binned inventory as Rainier traditionally has. On the Max Line, the company can run a higher speed and be more gentle with the fruit. The company can also run two varieties at one time. This kind of flexibility to put more varieties on the back of truck at a higher volume is critical.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Rainier's growers take enormous pride in the apples they produces. It has been a great season for Rainier. The weather has cooperated well with the growers' efforts and allowed the growers to produce fruit with exceptional internal qualities and exceptional size and flavor. This will be a great year for customers to bring in fruit from Rainier Fruit Company from Washington state. Max Line will help Rainier get that exceptional fruit out to its customers in a timely fashion in a custom pack and flexible way.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
