<p style="text-indent:0px; line-height:12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold;line-height:130%"> Lima, Peru</span><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">By ANUK Staff<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">3.20.13</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>A series of new citrus varieties to be released this year were presented by the University of California Citrus Crops Program on the first day of Citrica 2013, an international citrus symposium.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Timothy Williams, head of the UC program, presented two new mandarin varieties to be released next July: EncoreLS and Nova-No, according to Agraria.pe.<img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/citrus-update-march-20-2013-cropped.jpg" alt="Cropped Images 03192013" />The varieties contain less than 2 seeds per fruit with high cross-pollination, and are resistant to Alternaria alternata (a fungus of citrus), with a 50 MT / ha average production, a size of 66mm and orange and smooth skin.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">In some cases the same new varieties can produce two seasons in one year and fruit ripens in 1 or 2 months.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The program looked to produce fruit with few seeds, good flavor, easy-to-peel skin, vibrant color and medium size.
