Only 2% of organic produce is currently produced using organic seed, an issue further complicated by a misunderstanding about the availability of organic seed, as well as regulatory impediments that limit the movement of organic seed.

Vitalis is working diligently to address obstacles to the widespread adoption and use of organic seed in Mexico and beyond. The company’s video series explains how they are doing so.

“To assure integrity of the organic production cycle, organic seed must be used. High quality organic seed varieties are available, but sometimes regulatory impediments prevent growers from accessing the seed they need,” states Business Manager Erica Renaud. “Creating awareness about organic seed throughout the produce supply chain is important to the overall legitimacy of the growing organic market.”The six video series includes interviews with growers, organic produce marketers, and regulatory specialists conducted in Mexico during fall 2012.

Topics addressed include: the quality and availability of organic seed, Vitalis’ contribution to industry needs, the value of organic seed to organic producers, and the regulatory challenges facing Mexican growers as they attempt to increase their reliance on organic seeds.

The videos will be available on Vitalis’ website and be run during their presence at trade shows.

Vitalis
