<p style="text-indent:0px; line-height:12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold;line-height:130%"> Yuma, Az</span><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">By ANUK Staff<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">3.13.13</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>As numbers of the Asian citrus psyllid rise in the western part of the state, the Arizona Department of Agriculture has increased the quarantine that limits the movement of citrus trees in the area.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The expanded quarantine adds a 20 mile area around Lake Havasu City, from about 10 miles north of Interstate 40, south to the Avi Suquilla Airport (north of Parker in La Paz County) and all areas west of Alamo Road.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>The quarantine on moving uncertified citrus plants was imposed in southwestern Yuma County after the Department of Agriculture detected the Asian citrus psyllid in San Luis in October 2009.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">A statewide trapping program has subsequently found the insects in only isolated instances. Until January, only single adults of Asian citrus psyllid were found in 17 locations with no repeat detections.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">However, multiple detections in the Lake Havasu City area in January have prompted the state to expand the quarantine.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">The department also asks that the public helps in controlling the psyllid by only buying inspected certified citrus nursery stock and not moving homegrown citrus without certification from a state regulatory official, according to the Yuma Sun.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href=" http://www.yumasun.com/news/citrus-85925-arizona-psyllid.html"target="_new">Citrus Quarantine Update</a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
