Paul Mastronardi, President of Mastronardi Produce, joins us on today's episode of Behind the Greens. Mastronardi's Sunset brand includes tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and specialty vegetables, but the focus today is firmly on the Zima tomato. Introduced last year, the Zima has already been named as the industry’s “Best Overall” and the “People’s Choice” award winner. “This is the sweetest colored tomato in the marketplace and will be a refreshing color break on the red dominated tomato shelves for retailers”, says Mr. Mastronardi. These bite-sized tomatoes are packed in a unique snack-ready clamshell. The top label is re-sealable and peels back exposing an opening wide enough to allow the tomatoes to be dispensed. The bottom piece has vent holes that allow the water to drain.
