U.S. avocado consumption for the Cinco de Mayo holiday is expected to reach a record-breaking 87.3 million pounds. Out of California, availability is forecasted to be very good, with great sizing and excellent quality.
Jan DeLyser, Vice President Marketing, tells AndNowUKnow, "From Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day, through the 4th of July and up until Labor day, we will be planning holiday themes to promote avocados with our retail and foodservice partners. Along with our Chef Partners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, we will be bringing a host of media and online community opportunities to promote fresh avocado consumption."
The California Avocado Commission will also be attending the FPFC Southern California Luncheon as sponsors of the event. Chef Partners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger will be spokespersons at the luncheon carrying the CAC message to promote avocado consumption and creative usage. The Wake Up to Breakfast will be themed throughout the event as well.
CAC has also teamed up with a few of bloggers who will be presenting recipe contests featuring California avocados. The blogger sites can be found at iwashyoudry.com and asouthernfairytale.com.

“The California avocado season is well underway, and Cinco de Mayo is an excellent time for us to promote,” DeLyser continued. “CAC is working with retailers to provide customized support to build an outstanding spring through fall season, and the Cinco de Mayo festivities are a key component.”
