Argentinean Blueberries Hit by Frost

<p>Weather complications in July and August have taken their toll on Argentinean blueberry production. Volumes are expected to be down because of frost damage in Tucuman, Salta and Concordia where mostly the early varieties were effected. Growers tell us that, they believe there will be damage in 20-40% of the early varieties, but that may only mean a loss of 10-20% of the total overall crop. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Leslie Simmons of Dave's Specialty Imports, tells AndNowUKnow, "There will be some promotable quantities during weeks 42 and 43 and are expected to pick back up back up in week 44."</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Members of Gourmet Trading Company were on the ground last week visiting blueberry fields in Northwest and Northeast Argentina. The company notes that the Northwest will have loss of production due to intense cold weather coupled with drought conditions that limited the growers ability to fully protect their fields. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>The company states that while the season will have a slower start, heavier production is expected by Mid-October.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
