LOS ANGELES, CA - This week two titanic food industry names—Carl’s Jr.® and Beyond Meat®—announced plans to partner for a new plant-based project. The fast food burger maker and the plant-based innovator introduced a new culinary creation: the Beyond Famous Star®. Vegans, flexitarians, fast food aficionados, and others can get their fill of the new offering at over 1,000 Carl’s Jr. locations beginning January 2nd.
“We know people are looking for options—in fact, roughly one-third of consumers identify as flexitarians—and we’re thrilled to partner with Beyond Meat to bring more delicious, irresistible flavors to our menu,” said Jason Marker, CEO of Carl’s Jr.’s parent company, CKE Restaurants, in a press release. “The new Beyond Famous Star is a true industry game changer, and we’re proud to add it to our roster of innovative offerings and build on the legacy of mouthwatering flavors.”
According to that press release, the new Beyond Famous Star is a first-of-its-kind flexitarian take on the Carl’s Jr.’s iconic Famous Star. The new burger features Beyond Meat’s new Beyond Burger 2.0 patty—a 100% plant-based patty from Beyond Meat that is free of GMOs, gluten and soy, and has lower saturated fat than regular beef, but still delivers flame-broiled flavor and 20g of protein.
The Beyond Famous Star features a Beyond Burger patty, melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, dill pickles, special sauce, and mayonnaise on a seeded bun.
“I have long looked forward to the day when my kids can go to a major fast-food chain and order The Beyond Burger. I am grateful to say that day has arrived,” said Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat Founder and CEO. “At our core, Beyond Meat is about enabling consumers to Eat What You Love™, and there is no better example than being able to enjoy a delicious Carl’s Jr. burger, while receiving the added health and sustainability benefits of the plant-based Beyond Burger. It is with innovative and forward-looking partners, like Carl’s Jr., that we are building a brighter and more sustainable future.”
The Beyond Famous Star can currently be ordered at participating locations for $6.29, and for those looking for plant-based eating options outside the confines of a menu (don’t box me in!), restaurant goers can add a Beyond Burger patty to any Carl’s Jr. sandwich for $2.
