<p>With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, growers are expecting that retailers will soon be ramping up on orders for the holiday’s favorites.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Tom Polk, Account and Commodity Manager for Growers Express, tells us that at present demand is fair. He notes that the weather in Yuma has brought everything on over the last few weeks and that is continuing into this week with large sizing and weights around 2.5 lbs. per head and counts of 18 to 20.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “We can expect some pretty good scrambling around this time of year as everyone tries to procure cabbage to meet their needs for the first part of March. I think it will be tighter than most are expecting right now,” Polk tells us.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Setting up needs and packs three to four weeks in advance is necessary for cabbage as most of the year there is very little demand above contract or program buying, Polk reflects. “We can help our customers prepare for their needs with relevant up-to-date information and planning.”</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Jeff Crook, Sales for Church Bros. notes that the weather has been quite warm in the desert growing regions which has been causing the cabbage to grow faster than they’d like.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Crook also notes though that, “A lot of companies buy cabbage at a set price for the St. Patrick’s Day period and most of those ad prices are at or around $10.75. Most of us like to grow more cabbage during this time for this reason. You generally see your demand go up several hundred percent.”</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Prices are normal for this period Crook tells us, “When we first started, we were in the teens. As supplies increased, we went down to $6 in the last week. With St. Patrick’s Day, it’s slowly starting to head north a little bit.”</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Russ Widerburg, Sales Manager, Boskovich Farms tells AndNowUKnow, “We are getting a lot of inquiries now from customers trying to tie up volume for St. Patrick’s Day. Most lids appear to be in the $10.75 range. But if other shippers are like us, we do not have any product left to offer. Sounds like the market should be a little snug during the pull.” </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>There seems to be a lot more Cabbage going into processing now Widerburg reflects, so that in turn could cause the open market to get a little active during the Holiday. </p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p>Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow as the industry ramps up for St. Patrick’s Day.</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href="http://www.growersexpress.com/products/index.html" target="_new">Growers Express</a> <a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href="http://churchbrothers.com/content" target="_new">Church Brothers</a> <a class="btn btn-sm btn-primary col-lg-12" style="white-space: normal;" href="http://www.boskovichfarms.com/boskovich-products.php" target="_new">Boskovich Farms</a></p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
