Bruce Dowhan, General Manager for Giumarra Agricom International

There have been some short stoppages in harvest due to some rain, but it has been very limited. Peak season for California is going to be June, July and August. We should start to see a decline in availability, coming out of Mexico. The market has been performing remarkably well. We have had some weeks when the volume has been very heavy, we have had some weeks where volume has exceeded 30,000,000 lbs. In years passed, if you had volume that exceeded 20,000,000 lbs often times the market would soften, yet we have had very good markets. As a matter of fact, last week were very close to approximately 40,000,000 lbs. between California and Mexico, and the market performed rather well.

www.giumarra.com

Debbie Willmann, National Account Manager for Index Fresh

The market leading up to what is the second largest avocado event of the entire year which is Cinco De Mayo, has been very strong for the past four weeks. Last week we did see a significant increase in harvesting both out of California and Mexico. Those countries combined brought in about 38,000,000 lbs. which might be one of the biggest weeks we have seen in years. So far, the market is handling it. With Cinco de Mayo promotions, it is the retail event across the country; a little bit more exciting on the West Coast and in Texas, but it does have an effect across the country on demand. We are in great shape heading into Cinco De Mayo.

www.indexfresh.com

Doug Meyer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for West Pak Avocado

Supply right now is very good. Growers are motivated to get into the groves and continue picking. We are seeing more growers come online and start harvesting for the season as they gear up for the first big promotional kick off to the season which is the Cinco De Mayo promotion. Market conditions are stronger than we originally forecasted prior to the season starting. They are very favorable right now and conditions are good and I think that is why we are seeing growers really motivated to get in and be part of those of us who are promoting for Cinco De Mayo.

www.westpakavocado.com
