CORAL SPRINGS, FL - As a way to engage the industry while helping advance its mission to increase produce consumption, Dave's Specialty is inviting United Fresh attendees to help select the next location of a salad bar as a part of the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.

At the show, the company will be showcasing its fresh berries in a mock salad bar, spreading awareness about the initiative and encouraging participants to enter-to-win a chance to choose their favorite school district as the home of the latest installation.

Leslie Simmons, Vice President, Dave's Specialty Imports

“In support of the United Fresh Foundation and Let’s Move, we are thrilled to donate our first salad bar this year,” explains Leslie Simmons, the company’s Vice President. “We are always looking for ways to give back and to support healthy eating and this program absolutely meets those goals for us.”

So why salad bars? The program’s website gives the following answer:

“Supporting Research shows that incorporating salad bars into school lunches increases children’s consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. When offered healthy food choices, children respond by trying new items, incorporating greater variety into their diets, and increasing their daily intake of fruits and vegetables. Through these early, positive experiences, students are better prepared for a lifetime of healthy eating.”

Mike Bowe, President, Dave's Specialty Imports

Mike Bowe, President of the family-owned and operated business, continues, “This is a great way for us to bring awareness to an important program and to get our customers involved with something meaningful on the show floor.”
