GOODYEAR, AZ - As hosts prepare for the bustling holiday season by crafting a host of enticing culinary creations, herbs are a category rightfully taking the spotlight. With an uptick in herb consumption on the horizon, Duncan Family Farms is backing its retail partners with promotable opportunities through its line of 18 fresh, organic herb varieties.
“During the holiday season, we see the usage of rosemary, sage, and thyme increase by as much as 300 percent!” said Patty Emmert, Community Relations and Marketing Manager for Duncan Family Farms. “This particular herb trio is known as the poultry blend and when sold together, can increase in sales up to 500 percent. We are happy to offer this special blend to serve consumer demand and offer our customers a product that is highly sought after.”
Google trends show a strong spike in search volume for terms involving “fresh herbs” in the lead-up to Thanksgiving through Christmas, creating a booming channel of demand for retailers looking to drive sales for the category. In addition to the popular poultry blend, other herb varietals see a slight increase from 10 to 20 percent above regular sales, according to a press release.
As the company notes, maintaining a well-stocked herb selection will not only inspire sales in the herb category, but will also drive purchases throughout the produce and meat departments.
“The holidays provide retailers an opportunity to capitalize on display solutions and cross-merchandising to increase basket rings throughout the season,” added Emmert. “By showcasing items like turkey basters, brining bags, pie dishes, and meat thermometers near fresh herbs, retailers are able to show shoppers exactly what they’ll need to prepare their holiday meals.”
Duncan launched its Organic Fresh Herb Line in 2021, harnessing its multi-regional footprint to offer customers consistent supply, healthy volume, versatile pack size capabilities, and exceptional product quality.
With opportunities like these on the horizon, ANUK will be here to help you maximize the potential of all the categories in your produce department.
