Our tangerines and juice orange varieties, the majority of it comes out of Polk County. Well we had an earlier start this season, and we’re 2-3 weeks ahead of last year, and that’s holding true across the board on all varieties. Volume’s been pretty similar, up on certain items, down a bit on other items, but nothing to be alarmed about as far as the supply line. The only thing we see this year we’ll be finishing a bit earlier. Right now, we’re still in the peak grapefruit production right now, so as we get into March, you’ll see the market increase week by week on grapefruit and tangerines.

Sam Jones

Citrus Operations Manager

Duda Farm Fresh Foods

This time of year, we’re primarily harvesting in the central part of the state along the sun ridge area, but throughout the season we are regionally diverse and we’re able to harvest two or three different areas of the state. The much-needed rain that we’ve received over the last several days has actually been very beneficial to the Florida citrus trees. This is a critical time of year we’re in the middle of with production practices of nutritional applications and bloom period is just right around the corner. Trees are in excellent condition, and the crop remains in great shape, very good quality and condition. Supply all season long I would characterize as very dependable and very secure.
