Mangos are the most popular fruit in the world. Gary Clevenger, Co-Founder and Managing Member of Freska Produce recently spoke with AndNowUKnow regarding the current mango market.
For Freska, things are looking very good. The company has just about finished up in Peru and is beginning to harvest in Mexico. Ataulfos and Tommy Atkins are coming out of Oaxaca.
Clevenger said that the market is strong right now, especially for red mangos. While production in Mexico is somewhat slow, quality is pretty good right now. Ataulfo production is also strong in Nogales and Texas.
Pricing is pretty strong and should be until the first couple weeks in April. There will be a lot of volume in April, with good pricing. This will be a good time for retailers to run promotions.
According to Clevenger, "There will be plenty of fruit to go around."
