LOS ALAMITOS, CA - In all the hubbub of December festivities, I forgot that there’s another holiday that immediately follows right after the new year begins. The Lunar New Year is almost upon us! In my family, that means there’s snacks to be bought, crisp money to be obtained, and family feasts to be had. So to get retail folks ready for the event, Frieda’s Specialty Produce developed a customized Asian vegetable program just in time for Lunar New Year.

Alex Berkley, Director of Sales, Frieda's Specialty Produce“Some of our most popular items for this time of the year are Shanghai bok choy, fresh ginger, and Chinese eggplant, which fall right in line with the findings of our consumer research,” said Alex Berkley, Director of Sales. “We did the work for our retailers by finding out what consumers are looking for and where, thus giving us the items to create the perfect sets!”

A lot of the usual fare seems to be pretty normal to me, but apparently C+R Research found that 34 percent of shoppers are intimidated by Asian vegetables. However, 61 percent of shoppers are more interested in cooking Asian food at home now than ever before. The press release also stated that C+R Research found 56 percent of shoppers say that they want to be able to shop for Asian produce in their regular grocery store. Frieda’s in-store signage and educational packaging help smooth that uncertainty, allowing both retailers and consumers to profit with delicious new cuisine ideas to explore.

“We at Frieda’s take pride in knowing that our brand really resonates with shoppers,” continued Berkley. “They trust us to provide high-quality product, consistent supply, and inspiring recipe ideas, and that extends into our Asian vegetable line up, too.”

So if you’re celebrating your 12th, 24th, 36th, 48th, 60th, 72nd, 84th, or 96th birthday next lunar year, happy Year of the Rat! For more festive news, stay tuned to AndNowUKnow.
