Brent Scattini, Vice President of Sales, Gold Coast Packing

All of our cilantro production at this current time is coming out of Santa Maria Valley of California. The weather has been very good. We had some colder temperature several months ago that caused some bunching up of product. But things have leveled out now and weather is fantastic for growing cilantro. Supplies are excellent right now. There is plenty of cilantro available for promotion. There has been an increase interest for cilantro and therefore people are using it in more recipes. So, cilantro has become a growing item and we’re excited about the potential growth.

Serena Leiterman, Marketing and Brand Manager, North Shore

We offer 21 different varieties, everything from the most popular thing being basil to Chevril or Savory. We grow using a proprietary greenhouse system and since they are in that greenhouse, we are able to provide a completely controlled environment for the plants. The market in general has been really good. The herb category has been taking off, especially with more focus from publications out there as well as cooking shows. The herb category has really exploded and we are really excited to promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables along with herbs which make them taste better.

Patsy Ross, Marketing Director, Christopher Ranch

We just started our early variety garlic harvesting. We are harvesting in the San Joaquin Valley. This has been a really good end of season/first of harvest weather pattern. The weather is cooperating very. Peak season is just starting to get under way. By mid to the end of July and then all the way through August we will be harvesting all over the place. There is no reason not to do the California grown program and know that there is plenty of California garlic available and your customers want it.
