TAMPA, FL - Today, we celebrate three decades of game-changing industry innovation, as IFCO has announced its 30th anniversary. For thirty years, the company has been reducing waste throughout the supply chain and demonstrating a consistent, strong commitment to sustainability using its Reusable Packaging Containers (RPCs).

Michael Pooley, Chief Executive Officer, IFCO Systems“By pursuing our purpose, we can make a really positive impact on the environment, and this is what inspires everyone working at IFCO, every day,” said IFCO SYSTEMS Chief Executive Officer Michael Pooley. “With climate change, we are facing the greatest challenge of our generation, and we are committed to be part of the solution. Our 30 years of experience and our continuous drive to develop even more innovative solutions means that we are the right company that has the right proposition at the right time. Our mission remains to make the fresh-grocery supply chain sustainable.”

In 1992, the solutions provider set out to pioneer a unique, share-reuse-recycle model based on the circular economy, as noted in a press release. Thirty years later, IFCO’s RPCs are used in over 1.9 billion shipments of fresh produce a year.

In comparison to single-use packaging, RPCs cut CO2e emissions by up to 60 percent, energy consumption by 64 percent, water use by 80 percent, and solid-waste generation by up to 86 percent. The use of IFCO RPCs enabled savings equivalent to more than 616,000 tons of CO2e in 2021 alone, and customers using IFCO RPCs kept more than 55,000 tons of food from being wasted last year.

IFCO is celebrating its 30th anniversary, having grown over three decades to have its RPCs used in over 1.9 billion shipments of fresh produce a year

Since the company’s inception, the use of IFCO RPCs enabled savings of over 3 million tons of waste within the fresh supply chain. Currently, the provider has its sights set on driving even more waste, focusing on digitalization efforts to future-proof the fresh grocery supply chain.
