The US Iceberg FOB market is finally easing down from the highs of the last few weeks, but is continuing to remain in tight supply this week. Retail prices pushed up by the recent high FOB costs have slowed purchases by consumers and in turn have reduced demand from the west coast. At the beginning of the month iceberg prices were averaging around $22.24 for 24 liners and $23.24 for 24 count wraps; about double what they typically run during the summer.

Iceberg prices as of mid-week ranged between $14.65 to $19.10 on palletized naked 24's and $15.65 to $20.10 on cellos.

Recent unfavorable East Coast weather conditions - heat in the Ohio Valley, New Jersey, and the southeast and rains in Eastern Canada - had taken a toll on the leaf lettuce crop, causing higher demand for the category and California iceberg as a substitute. Broccoli and Cauliflower have been moving higher in price this week with limited supplies. Leaf Lettuces seem to be stable in prices and supply from the west coast.

Broccoli and cauliflower are remaining in tight supply with prices ranging from $16.50 to $18.55 on 14 counts and $19.00 to $22.48 on crowns. 12 count cauliflower is presenting prices from $17.65 to $20.48. Conflicting cool weather and warm weather bouts are keeping artichokes and brussels sprouts in tight supply as well.

Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow for continuous updates on the market.
