<p style="text-indent:0px; line-height:12px;"><span style="font-weight:bold;line-height:130%"> Uruapan, MX</span><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">By Eric Anderson<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">4.15.13</p><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><p><img src="https://cdn.andnowuknow.com/legacyWriterImages/mexico-haas-banner.jpg" alt="images 041513" /><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">With a little less than three months to the end of the current season of Hass avocado exports to the U.S., the crop is estimated to exceed 500,000 tons – a record amount.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">One of the main factors that influenced the elevated figure was the delayed California crop, according to the Quadratin.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">At the most recent monthly meeting of the Local Board of Vegetable Health of Uruapa, Deputy and avocado producer, Victor Manuel Barragan Garibay total of 474,000 tons have been harvested in the region, 400,000 of which were exported to the United States.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Up until the second half of the month of March, a box of Mexican avocado weighting 11.3 kg, had a price of up to $30, which is expected to be maintained until the end of the season.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">For reference, it should be noted that 540,596 tons of avocado entered the US up until March 31 - 73,50 percent from Mexico, (397,346 tons). The rest comes from California with 21.85 percent (118,099 tons).
