It might be time to dust off those umbrellas and stop the rain dances. California might be seeing a few showers coming this week that will finally relieve some of the pressure of the drought.

A series of weather systems are forecast that will help break down the high pressure ridge that has kept Northern California dry for the past two months. These weather systems may be enough to tap into enough tropical moisture and energy to bring significant rainfall to much of northern California this Thursday and Friday, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in California.

Some light precipitation is expected to move across the northern mountains early on in the week. A more significant system may affect the region later on by Thursday and Friday, which is expected to bring in the most precipitation to the area since early December.

Expect rainfall amounts from around 0.30 – 0.40 inches in the North Valley, 0.20 – 0.30 inches in the Central Valley, and up to 0.10 inches in the South Valley. The high pressure ridge may rebuild from February 3-4, which will lead to a period of above normal max temperatures, according to Terry Snow’s Weather Advisory Service.

Although the rest of the outlook is uncertain, it’s likely that dry conditions will continue with temperatures near normal.

Stay tuned to AndNowUKnow as we continue following the weather forecast in California.

U.S. National Weather Service

Terry Snow Weather Advisory Service
