UNITED STATES - Onion markets remained steady across the country's major shipping regions in the USDA National FOB Review for Aug. 7, supported by fairly good to moderate demand as growers continued moving red, yellow, white, and sweet onion supplies.
The Columbia Basin of Washington and Umatilla Basin of Oregon reported fairly good demand and a steady market. Red globe type onions in 25-pound sacks ranged from $12.00 to $14.00 for jumbo, mostly $13.00 to $14.00, while medium sizes brought $11.00 to $14.00, mostly $11.00 to $12.00. Yellow hybrid onions in 50-pound sacks ranged from $16.00 to $18.00 for colossal, $15.00 to $16.00 for jumbo, mostly $15.00, and $13.00 to $15.00 for medium.
Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon, also reported fairly good demand and a steady market. Red globe type U.S. One onions in 25-pound sacks ranged from $11.00 to $14.25 for jumbo and $10.00 to $12.00, mostly $10.00, for medium. White U.S. One onions in 50-pound sacks ranged from $22.00 to $25.00 for jumbo, mostly $22.00, and $19.00 to $22.00 for medium. Yellow Spanish Hybrid U.S. One onions ranged from $18.00 to $19.00 for super colossal, $17.00 to $19.00 for colossal, $16.00 to $18.00 for jumbo, and $12.00 to $14.50 for medium.
California's San Joaquin Valley reported moderate demand and a steady market for yellow Grano type onions. Fifty-pound sacks ranged from $15.00 to $18.00 for colossal, mostly $15.00 to $16.00, $14.00 to $15.00 for jumbo, mostly $15.00, and $13.00 to $15.00 for medium, mostly $13.00.
Southern New Mexico also maintained a steady market under moderate demand. Red globe type onions in 25-pound sacks ranged from $12.00 to $18.00 for jumbo, mostly $15.00 to $16.00, and $11.00 to $18.00 for medium, mostly $15.00. White onions in 50-pound sacks ranged from $24.00 to $26.00 for jumbo and $20.00 to $26.00 for medium. Yellow Grano onions ranged from $20.00 to $22.00 for super colossal, mostly $20.00, $19.00 to $21.00 for colossal, mostly $19.00, $17.00 to $20.00 for jumbo, mostly $18.00 to $20.00, and $13.00 to $17.00 for medium.
In Georgia's Vidalia District, moderate demand kept the sweet onion market steady. Yellow Granex marked sweet U.S. One onions in 40-pound cartons ranged from $21.00 to $26.00 for jumbo, mostly $23.00 to $24.00, with occasional lower sales reported.
