Mike Aiton, Marketing Director, Prime Time International

The pepper harvest for Prime Time is going on right now in the Coachella Valley. We are harvesting green, yellow and red field grown bell peppers. It has been warmer than usual this year. The crop has been moving along quickly. The next three weeks are going to be our peak production in Coachella. Supplies are very good, you are going to find the most reasonable prices of the year right now on red and yellow peppers. We are pleased with the quality and the overall appearance of the peppers that we have in Coachella. Its a great time to promote and I think that with the prices we have, retailers can get to really attractive price points and move a lot of additional volume in the next month.

Gene Coughlin, Category Director for Peppers, Sun World

We are harvesting in Coachella, California. It started a little bit lower price-wise than normal here in Coachella, but I think the reason for that is there was still a significant supply of Mexican product coming in so it kind of held the market back a bit, but I think on the positive side it enabled some ads to kick in a little bit earlier so the movement and volume was flowing a little bit better earlier than normal. Quality is good, sizing has been excellent, we’ve been peaking on extra large, and color’s been good, and everything’s been good. We’ve just got to kind of navigate around the heat spikes a little bit because that can cause a little bit of issues with the peppers.
