Potandon Produce is Looking to Expand Its Vidalia Onion Program
- by Jordan Okumura
IDAHO FALLS, ID - While Potandon Produce may be more widely known for its potato program with increasing brand penetration, the Idaho Falls, ID-based produce company is looking forward to a year of growing its presence in the Vidalia Onion category.
“This year we are marketing a significantly larger supply base in Georgia,” Ralph J. Schwartz, Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Innovation as well as Export Sales, tells me. “We are also in the middle of refreshing all of our onion packaging across the program with new artwork and color coding to distinguish between multiple varieties, organic and conventional."
Potandon decided it was time to move forward with the refreshed look for Vidalia’s to align with the company’s goals and initiatives moving forward. The Green Giant branded Vidalia Onion program will be coming to markets across the country this spring in 40# Cartons, and consumer bags of 2#, 3#, and 5#.
“Vidalia onions represent over 60% of all sweet onions sold each year,” Ralph notes. “It is best to carry both a bulk and a bagged Vidalia onions and adjust your onion category promotional strategy to also focus on Vidalia onion promotions.”
Strategically, Potandon is creating a more robust and homogeneous message to promote this spring that will encompass its dynamic product line of new and staple items, as well as its first ever potato line under Potandon Produce™.
