Potandon Produce is now shipping from all major growing areas as we get into the holidays with excellent quality on all varieties throughout the winter months.

The overall size profile of the crop is larger than typical with more Premium sized reds and yellows available and more large carton bakers from the russet segment. In addition, smaller potatoes and consumer bags are selling at higher prices than the company has seen in previous years.

In terms of overall crop supply, Ralph Schwartz, VP of Sales, Marketing and Innovation, tells AndNowUKnow, "This year's supply will be lower than last year due to a decline from the russet segment as a shift to growing yellow and red varieties has occurred, increasing supplies on these two segments. In addition, intense summer heat in the Pacific Northwest reduced yields in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho."

Schwartz notes that overall demand for fresh potatoes is down for the crop year by 18% with the beginning of November starting out very soft as compared to last year due to a late Thanksgiving, although Yellow potatoes continue to grow in popularity taking market share from white potato sales rather than russets or reds. Expectations are that overall shipments for the year will be 6% lower than last year.

Potandon is a key producer of high quality yellow potatoes marketed under the Klondike Goldust and Green Giant brand. The company's mini and gourmet sized potato supplies will be very consistent throughout the winter months.

Potandon
