YUMA, AZ - The newly renamed and rebranded Savor Fresh Farms is kicking off its first specialty melon season since its unveil. Starting up yesterday, May 9th, with its own production and harvesting arm, Primetime Harvesting.

Diana Russell, Director of Quality Assurance for Savor Fresh & Principal of Primetime Harvesting“We evaluate our employees on quality of work done, not quantity of boxes packed,” Diana Russell, both Principal of Primetime Harvesting and Director of Quality Assurance for Savor Fresh, said in a press release. According to Diana, Primetime is emphatic that consumers of Savor Fresh’s proprietary Kiss Melons have a good experience every time. “With an intensive training program to ensure quality, each employee is taught how to harvest great tasting melons.”

Diana is with those employees daily in the fields, ensuring this mantra is held and that the strict flavor criteria is met, the company said.

“We consider our harvest practices a critical part of the Kiss melon program, equally important to seed selection and growing practices for achieving the right flavor profile, so our employees’ role is key,” Diana explained. “We also use consumer feedback from social media and phone calls to make adjustments to the harvest. Consumer advocates are our eyes and ears, and we appreciate their feedback and react to it.”

Primetime’s operations include strict food safety criteria, as well as ongoing employee benefits and training. A quality control inspector team monitors flavor throughout each day, while a team of anywhere from nine to fifteen crews trained on harvest characteristics plucks the melons.

The business is also rooted in family, with Diana’s husband taking on an active role.

“My husband, Milas Russell Jr., handles our growing, he’s developed many unique production practices that are tied to our harvest practices and allow us to achieve our Kiss Melons,” Diana said. “We take growing and harvest practices very seriously because it is so key to getting the consistently great melons we produce.”

The continued development of innovative practices, in addition to its stringent monitoring, are what Primetime Harvesting says help it to keep ahead of the curve on harvest food safety/production of consistently flavorful melons.
