The Simonian Fruit Company is kicking off harvest today on its pomegranate crop. The grower is currently harvesting on the West side of the valley, in Mendota, California. The season should run into mid-November with Simonian Fruit finishing up on the shipping around late January to early February.

Since pomegranates are a Fall fruit they are subject to rain which causes them to crack, but so far, according to Jeff Simonian, Sales Manager with the Simonian Fruit Company, weather has not been an issue and they are keeping their fingers crossed.

Quality is good and so is supply as the company begins to harvest. Simonian Fruit anticipates a strong market for the grower's pomegranate offerings that are showing great color inside and out. The company is offering the fruit it an array of packaging from 2 layer tray packs to bulk bins, club packs for club stores and 1 layer packs.

Jeff Simonian tells AndNowUKnow, "Retailers should promote pomegranates early and promote often; not just around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Giving the unique fruit visibility now can increase the ring at the register and shake the stigma that it may just be a holiday fruit."

The company produces and markets premium quality apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, pomegranates, persimmons and grapes. The company has been family owned since 1960.
