WENATCHEE, WA - Among the great words not used enough in their positive power is “karma,” which can absolutely go both ways. Reminding us of how this can be an amazing thing is the latest exclusive variety from Starr Ranch Growers.
“We have a new Starr Ranch Growers exclusive apple called Karma. This new product is equipped with vibrant bi-color skin, abundant juiciness, and crisp texture,” Krista Beckstead, Brand Manager, recently shared with me. “True to its name, the Karma apple not only tastes incredible, but with every purchase, a portion of the proceeds go toward organizations that support childhood nutrition—so consumers can snack and feel good about it!”
How is that for power of purchase? I can’t think of a better debut for such an item than the Southeast Produce Council—home of giving and southern hospitality in our industry—Southern Exposure.
“Southern Exposure is the first well-attended regional event that many of our key buyers attend. It kicks off the year talking about what’s new and upcoming as well as gives you the opportunity to review the past year with your buyers one-on-one,” Krista exclaimed when speaking to the importance of the opportunity. “We will also be focusing on our other exclusive apple variety JUICI™ which had a highly successful year last year with distribution available in all Costco stores nationwide for the very first time!”
The popular JUICI apple boasts a balance of sweet and tart flavors, great crunch, and is a thinner-skinned apple with a long shelf-life. Its new sibling, Karma, with a hybrid parentage of Fuji/Golden and Honeycrisp, is also naturally resistant to browning, offering unique floral aromas, abundant juiciness, crisp texture, and a high Brix content.
In addition to her excitement about introducing the industry to this latest offering, Krista said she is also a consumer and can’t wait to see what else joins the show floor exhibits.
“As we plan out our time in Orlando, I’m most looking forward to showcasing our new exclusive Karma apple as well as connecting with all our produce friends that we haven’t seen in several months,” Krista concluded. “Another exciting thing is seeing all the new products that other produce companies are launching for the year. As a huge produce consumer, it’s always fun to see what will be out in the stores this year to purchase and try out at home!”
This year’s Southern Exposure revisits Orlando, Florida, March 2–4. Be sure to swing by booth #1037 to meet the Starr Ranch team and the exclusive apples it cultivates.
