PHARR, TX - The deep orange color, the tropical fragrance, and the sweet taste of papayas are more than enchanting for shoppers. And with Super Starr International on deck, your shoppers will find themselves thinking every day is the best day to indulge in this delicious fruit. I tapped Lance Peterson, President, to learn more about the market ahead of harvest.

Lance Peterson, President, Super Starr International“Everything is currently looking great and on schedule,” Lance informs me. “The papaya market is currently a little slower than normal as there is a lot of product on the market. However, everything is looking just fine and moving along nicely.”

Super Starr’s papaya planting and preparations are moving along splendidly as well. The grower harvests Royal Star, Super Starr, and green papayas in Tecomán, Colima, Mexico. With these varieties displayed prominently on the shelf, shoppers are sure to think of delicious salads, fruit platters, and innovative savory options.

Although the papaya market is moving a little slower than usual, Super Starr International says everything else is currently looking great and on schedule

“We produce the only Fair Trade Certified™ papayas on the market,” Lance continues. “Our Royal Star and Super Starr papaya varieties grow year-round and are Fair Trade Certified. We also offer conventional green papayas year-round for shoppers looking for more diversity.”

Alongside its year-round papayas are its Honeydew melons, also grown in Tecomán. The grower is gearing up for its melon program right now as well, which is on time and projected to be harvested mid to late December.
