Cody Rose, Sales and Commodity Manager, Country Sweet Produce,

Right now we are currently harvesting all of the four varieties we currently grow:

The Covington, The Red Diane, The O’ Henry Sweet and Japanese sweet. We grow, ship and pack all sweet potatoes out of Bakersfield, CA. We’ve had excellent weather for this growing season. Our biggest concern now is to get them out of the ground before the rain hits. Peak sales will continue to happen throughout the holidays, which are great times for retailers and suppliers to get together for promotion.

George Wooten, President & CEO, Wayne E. Bailey

Our main variety that we harvest is the Covington variety. We do white sweet potato, which is O’Henry and we use our Oriental type which is our Grand Asian. Right now, we’re harvesting in North Carolina, the rains are just perfect for what we need for fall harvest. I’d like retailers to know that sweet potatoes are a great option to the produce department. We’ve started offering different pack sizes and it’s added to the produce department displays. We have retail products that will add to demand and hopefully retail profits.

John Williams, Marketing Manager, Herndon Farms

We grow the Covington variety and harvest in the Georgia area. Georgia and Florida has had a lot of rainfall which has affected us but its we’ve seen a drop off which has allowed us to get the potatoes out of the ground. Our supply is great, our crop looks excellent this year, by far best crop we’ve had in past 3 years. We don’t send anything out of Herndon farms that we aren’t proud of, we’re happy to work with retailers on ads and anything they need from us we will be there to help them.
