TEXAS & MEXICO - The Texas-Mexico border looks to have some intense weather in store, as a new storm heads southwest across Arkansas and through to the border. Meteorologists report that Texas and northern Mexico will likely see heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms, and flooding through mid-week.
“The most likely time for scattered severe thunderstorms will be Monday afternoon into Monday night across much of central Texas,” shared AccuWeather Storm Warning Meteorologist Brian Koochel in a new report. “The main threats will be isolated tornadoes and wind gusts up to 70 mph.”
AccuWeather also noted that hail “large enough to dent cars and smash windows” could be seen throughout Texas, hitting communities around Dallas, San Antonio, and Tyler, Texas. This region and further south will likely see at least 1 to 3 inches of rain, with up to 5 inches possible depending on the storms exact path, National Weather Service Meteorologist Steve Smart explained.
“A high amount of moisture is expected to be available for these storms to work with, so flash flooding will likely become more of a concern as we move into Monday night and Tuesday,” Koochel added.
Expect delays on Texas Interstates 10, I-20, and I-35, which could potentially cause poor visibility and flooding that would postpone shipments crossing the state. Alternate routes may be necessary.
Tuesday, as the heaviest storms move south towards the border, will potentially see flooding and soil soaking, putting cities like San Antonio, Del Rio, and the Rio Grande Valley on watch. While Monday and Tuesday will experience the brunt of the storm, the National Weather service said there is a small chance for rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
