Bob Mast, VP Marketing & Food Safety, CMI

We’re harvesting in different locations throughout the state. Most of the Galas if not all of the Galas are off the tree. For the most part we started to transition into Red Delicious and Golden Delicious. We did have a certain amount of fruit that were affected by the hail event. Pack outs have been better than expected. We should have good supplies on primarily all varieties. We’ve seen some momentum pick up as retailers are starting to change over their displays to moving the apples and the Fall items up towards the front of the department.

Roger Pepperl, Marketing Director, Stemilt

Well we’ve got the Gala harvest already taken in. Goldens we’re half way through them. We’re maybe past half way on Honey Crisps. So you can see we’re picking a lot of different things. We’re harvesting mostly Colombian Basin. Most a lot of the varieties we’re picking are down by the Basin. Market is fantastic. There’s high demand for apples. Retailers are doing their switches where they take their summer set and go to a fall set so apples and pears are taking those positions quickly. This apple crop is a larger size, larger sizes usually get better money and that is also the case this year. It’s time to plan promotions you have to have a big Octobers for apples, and we have the supply to fill those October promotions.

Don Roper, VP of Sales and Marketing, Honey Bear

For apples, just finished up harvesting Galas about a week ago. We’re in the middle of harvesting Honey Crisp. From a weather stand point we’ve had a great growing season. We’ve experienced quite a but of hail during the summer. Since then, the weather in Washington has been perfect from a supply standpoint. We have good supply this year, fruit size appears to be 1 to 2 sizes larger than last year. From a promotion stand point, this is our month. October is a key month for apples.
