John Shuman, Owner, Shuman Produce

We're almost done with our Vidalia sweet onion harvest, the industry had a lot of issues with Downy Mildew in March and April. From an industry standpoint we've never dealt with Downy Mildew at this level. We had an early Spring combined with the issue of Downy Mildew its really made the entire industry harvest the crop sooner. Here in the last week to ten days, we've gotten rain, that's going to shorten the crop as well coming out of the field. We had 85-90 percent of our crop dug and ready for harvest before May 1st, typically that doesn't happen till around May 10th-12th. We're finishing out in the field and we're hopeful for a historic season.

Delbert Bland, Owner, Bland Farms LLC

Supply is good Vidalias are going to be short this year but we still run at full capacity each day, it just means we'll will finish with fresh onions much sooner than we normally do. We're probably going to be 3 weeks ahead on fresh onions. Market is decent. Its not as good as it should be, even though onions are short, there are plenty of onions right in the middle of harvest, so in turn you'll have a lot of people trying to market them all at one time, naturally that causes the market to come off a little bit. We have good quality onions and we're still packing them fresh. We'll have storage to go into July and we'll continue shipping a good quality onion.

Matt Curry, Owner, Curry and Co.

Volume is good for us and the market is stable. We will be looking at some increases as we get towards June and come out of storage. I think that supplies coming out of storage will be more limited this year then normal just because yields are low and some fields of onions are not storable and they have to go fresh. We have additional storage capacity this year so we have a good crop to promote well into the Summer.
