Say hello to yuzu, a rare and costly citrus fruit from Japan, which is predicted to become as popular as oranges.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> This new fruit, which is widely stocked in Asian food shops and is expected to hit UK supermarket shelves early next year, is finally being accepted into Western cuisine. Mike Lewis, executive chef at nationwide chain Yo! Sushi, says, “Yuzu looks like a tangerine and tastes similar to a floral lime. It has three times more vitamin C than a lemon, which makes this dish super-healthy.” Yo! Sushi plans to add a new sashimi dish to its menu featuring tart salsa made of yuzu.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Jamie Oliver, another renowned chef, has a recipe for home-made yuzu mayo, while Niger Slater makes a yuzu dressing for his crab and apple slaw.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> DailyMail UK reports that the East India Company has sourced yuzu direct from Japan to use it in a new range of fruit-infused chocolates.
